about

Suicide has become a greater killer of out military than the firefights of war. This is an appeal to consider the WHOLE COST of warfare. It seems sometimes inevitable, but it is never truly necessary.

lyrics

Tucson to Tehran words and music by Darrell E. Rodgers, Jr.

Bobby left his home up on the mountain
Far above the Tucson city line
He joined the Army for an education
But what he learned was heavy on his mind

They sent him off to fight the Taliban
In someplace torn by thirty years of war
He could only guess that he succeeded
‘cause he didn't have to stay there anymore

Before he could find a new job in Tucson
His unit got called up again
Seems two weeks of active duty in the Guard
Can be two weeks that never end

Well he found himself in Baghdad
Patrolling dusty streets through hell
When they finally brought him home to Tucson
He had deeper wounds than we could tell

Sometimes the guilt of his survival
Can drive a soldier half insane
Bobby sought a permanent solution
To his temporary pain

Nothin’ stops the pain
Like a bullet in the brain

Well there’s other kind of casualties
Than they report on the evening news
Too many young men just like Bobby
Minds are broken, Hearts confused

Well it’s seven thousand miles and more
From Tucson to Tehran
Some folks say we’re never goin’ there
But we’d better change the road we’re on
Yeah, we’d better change the road we’re on.
