about
Many years ago, I started writing this song for my daughter who was going through a break-up. She recovered more quickly than I could finish the song. I had only a partial verse and the chorus. Fast forward to last October: I'm working on another song and doodled out a chord progression that immediately brought the old song fragments to mind. I worked on it and finished the song, finally, years too late for her, but perhaps, right on time for someone else.

Lullaby In Blue - Copyright 2014 Darrell Elmer Rodgers
Loneliness echoes off the walls of your home
Your Lover is Gone, you're again on your own
You dreamed of a life as husband and wife
Now the shards of those dreams stab your heart like a knife
It feels to you, that all dreams are through
But tonight there's something you can do
Find a new dream to keep, sing yourself to sleep
with a Lullaby in blue
Lullaby in blue
Remember that you, are still noble and true
regardless of what, others may do
Gold is still gold, when it's left in the earth
by some silly fool, who can't see its worth
New golden dreams are are waiting for you
So tonight there's something you can do
Find a new dream to keep, sing yourself to sleep
with a Lullaby in blue
Lullaby in blue
(Bridge)
Life flows by like a river of tears
Downstream go regrets, Upstream lie our fears
But we can't see around tomorrow's bend
When we might be fishin' with a brand new friend
So let it all out, go ahead, scream and shout
Just take some time, to cry your eyes out
But then dry your eyes, and soon realize
There's a world lovers who can all sympathize
Don't think it's true, that your dreamin' is through
cause tonight there's something you can do
Find a new dream to keep, sing yourself to sleep
with a Lullaby in blue
Lullaby in blue
